The Strategic Sanitation Planning with SaniChoice - A Practitioners’ Guide provides all the information that engineering and planning consultants need to know to apply SaniChoice in such a context. The main inputs required for SaniChoice are knowledge on local conditions as well as stakeholder preferences. The main output is a set of sanitation system options that have to be discussed in order to balance the trade-offs between decision criteria and preferences.
The guide introduces in 5 steps how to get the information required to use SaniChoice and how to use the results when planning for Sanitation. With this, we aim to make a contribution to the Sustainable Development Goal 6 by:
- Enabling the identification of more appropriate and more inclusive sanitation solutions
- Enhancing the transparency of the option selection
- Facilitating prioritising locally appropriate and resource efficient sanitation solutions for the future
